New Year’s Resolution Goals

In the last few days I’ve heard quite a few people lament the fact that they have still not achieved their New Year’s Resolution goals. Ironically, this coincides with the half point mark of the year, so I decided to help out myself by not making any. Haha. Yes, guess I am a loser, or such. What's the point if you keep on making new year's resolution-but you never achieved it?? Or I just do not need to have any new year's resolution as I have always made my own day, weeks, months' resolutions? Well, anyway. Good bye 2009 with everything in it (specially the story of 2009-haha) and welcome 2010. Hope you (2010) will bring more in every thing for us. InsyaAllah.

Nonahanim: I love you 2009, but I hope I will love 2010 even more~ If you know what I mean. hehe (-_-")

Tahun 2009: Cerita 2009 (Surat Penglipurlara)

Ok girl, get a life la!! Anyway, thanks for one of the best moment in 2009 though we don't know you! *senyum-senyum*

My Family Wall Of Fame~

HR: Early Signs

An employee giving his or her two-week notice of resignation usually comes with little surprise. According to an article by Entrepreneur magazine, early warning signs include more personal phone calls, closed office doors and increased sick days. Other signs: the often vocal employee suddenly becomes passive, a normally quiet employee turns into a squeaky wheel, and an employee who suddenly seems happy.

So, bosses out there-watch the changes of your employee.
Try not to be surprise by your employee.

Nonahanim: Normally a big company will require employee to give two months (or more) notice.

I can't sleep and due to the dateline I need to catch up, I cannot sleep. Somehow I just can't do my work now. Just so stuck and lock. What do they say about people and time? Well, for this few days I really need to catch my time somehow, someway. So, I just stood at one corner and grab this one book (refer to the attached picture). Yes, its hilarious and I was laughing. The market research firm Eduventures estimates that by 2008, one in ten college students will be enrolled in an online degree program. Why September 16th?

After my post on Malaysia New Public Holiday, I've received numerous emails on the topic (its not exactly a topic as it was a BREAKING NEWS! - source given to me direct from Dewan Parliament!). Some were arguing, why?-don't we have enough public holidays? Some are happy (well, more extra day for not working, why not!). Some were wondering why that particular date? Some were asking, it will just be like Malaysia's Independent day or such. Some even comment: "Yes, the best leader ever for Malaysia!" (Just because of the given holiday??).

Do you know why September 16th?

On August 31st 1957, we are known as Malaya and not yet as Malaysia. The history for Malaysia begin when 16th September 1963, Sabah and Sarawak obtained their independence from British and at the same time Malaysia was formed. This is when Malaya, Sabah, Sarawak and Singapore agreed to form a federation with one constitution - the Federal Constitution. However, due to a political reason, Singapore left the constitution.

Malaya + Sabah + Sarawak ----> Malaysia
What do you think? :: I rest my case for now ::

BERITA: Kembalikan Caruman 11%

PETALING JAYA 18 Okt.

Mama Nona~

I lost my mom for 17 years now (yes, this entry should be post last two weeks-but unfortunately I was so stuck with things back in Kedah). It was a hard time (even today, sometimes I still feel hard). Back then, she always remind me, “you need to behave yourself or nobody-no one will want to take care of you when I’m gone”. I replied, “so be it-no worries”. Stupid. Reality, she knew that she has only few months to live – suffering gall cancer final stage. Among my siblings, I’ve always accompany my mom for any traditional and modern medical treatments. Somehow I always thought that one day, one fine day she will recover from her sickness (didn’t know about the cancer yet).

On Oct 1st, 1992, sharp at 0110 hrs-I’ve lost her by my side. Lost part of my light. I didn’t cry at first, it took me sometime to slap myself and realize the fact what just happen~ Mourning.

Even in her absence, she could still make me smile (”,)

Today, I keep on missing my mom and only now I know how it feels to be a grown up with so much of responsibilities and worries. Somehow I know, I’m strong because of her, because of her patient with me, anak dara dia yang degil! Thanks Mama! Psstt,.. Mama, Nona tak kahwin lagi ni~ smile.

Jom SHARE: Magazine For Mac

I've been using Mac for ages (since the day of iMac - CPU and monitor are one), but I'm so lame in using the Mac family for the best of work (lazy ass). As a management student, my priority has always been on doing research; not design. So, let it be I said. Now, I've bought this mag: The Independent Guide To The Mac. I learn my lesson. Even when my iPhone has spoiled!

NOTE: If you are using any Mac's family products, the mag is highly recommended. It's helpful with simple words to understand. Not so expensive (RM29.90) I guess with such info.

<--- my MacBook with zillion scratches :: sigh ::

Undergraduate With Debts

Nearly two-thirds of undergraduate students graduate college with some debt. Are you one of them? For myself, yes I am (not proud though). No option for me as I've reached over the range to apply scholar (that time). So, the only option was PTPTN. When our education can be easy (and cheap)? Undergraduates from Malaysia Government Universities also known as exam oriented students (memories just everything without knowing how to practice it). True? You can answer that.

:: i rest my case ::

Priorities

I can't sleep. I don't feel sleepy. Even though the hotel is providing with the most comfort bed I ever had (yeah, so right!). *sigh*
Sometimes life is unpredictable if you ask me or life IS unpredictable (do I understand myself right now? Hope you are as I think I do).

As I have more time to write now (not really though as I need to do some work later) rather then the past two weeks (busy, busy weeks). I'm praying that my life gonna change-soon. I will be right with my decision and the most critical part is to be happy with it. Exactly. It's the most important part in life. But, what will be my priorities? *am looking at the wall*

Priorities can be set in a number of ways. One simple way is to ask myself the rank-order the issues by: What is most important? What is second most important? and, What is least important? Or I can do some SWOT (management students will be pro in this). For Muslims, Istiqarah will be extra great way to help the steps in ranking it.

Still, to be frank-I have no answer to it. Call me choosy even I am not.

Life is simple? Yes, it is. But it's not easy though~

Cerpen Pendek (1)

"Aku sebenarnya dah give up sangat", keluh Ali di hening petang.
"Give up apanya kau ni? Bukan kau tu hati batu berurat besi,.." Meon membalas.

"Jadi, itu alasan kau untuk give up? That easy kawan?", balas Meon lagi.

*mungkin bersambung*

Lintas Hati~

Kelmarin, semalaman aku di tepi jendela itu,
Menanti dan terus menanti,
Janji kini hanya tinggal janji,
Panggilan dinanti umpama mimpi,
Kini pasti kau pergi tanpa mengingati,
Aku terima walau pedih di hati,..

Titik dengan penuh berhati-hati.
Terima kasih buah hati.

Personality tests can be a better predictor of job performance. The tests are controversial, however. The U.S. Court of Appeals ruled against the MMPI personality test, stating its use resulted in a medical exam, a violation of the Americans with Disabilities Act. The Supreme Court ruled that Duke Power's use of the Wonderlic Personality Test violated parts of the 1964 Civil Rights Act.

POINT OF VIEW

Islam

Islam, a name given by Allah to this religion (Quran 5:4), is an Arabic word which literally means obedience and peace. ISLAM is derived from the Arabic root "SALEMA": peace, purity, submission and obedience. So 'Islam' would mean the path of those who are obedient to Allah and who establish peace with Him and His creatures. Its follower are called Muslims.

Islam is not a new religion. It is, in essence, the same message and guidance which Allah revealed to all prophets before Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him. Allah says in the Qur’ân:

"Say, `We believe in ALLAH and that which has been revealed to us, and that which was revealed to Abraham and Ishmael and Isaac and Jacob and the tribes, and in that which was given to Moses and Jesus and other Prophets from their Lord. We make no distinction between any of them and to HIM we submit." (Qur’ân 3-85)

Six main Articles of faith in Islam

The Five Pillars of Islam (Declaration of the Islamic Faith)

In order to enter into the fold of Islam i.e. to be Muslim, one has to know, believe, accept totally and sincerely apply the five basic principles (Pillars) on which Islam is based: Ibn Umar narrated that the Messenger of Allah - Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H) said: Islam is based on the following five pillars (principles).

  1. Bearing witness that there is no God but Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah
  2. Observance of Prayer
  3. Paying Zakat
  4. Fasting during Ramadhan
  5. Pilgrimage to the house of Allah.

HR Acronym: TNA

Training Needs Analysis:
To assess an organization’s training needs. The root of the TNA is the gap analysis. This is an assessment of the gap between the knowledge, skills, abilities and other characteristic (KSAOs) that the employee in the organization currently possess and the KSAOs that they require to meet the organization’s objectives. HR: Training

Is training important?
Seeing it from HR, management and organization's perspectives, yes it is important. Its not only important, but its a need in any organization to be successful. Training is when someone is the process of being taught how to do something.

What is training needs?
Training needs is the amount or type of training that needs to be given to the employees of an organization in order to make up for a shortage of skills or abilities that is preventing the organization from fulfilling its aims and operating effectively.

*Presentation during my WAI training back then-great team I had!
[click picture to get bigger view]

Types of Trainings:
There are two types f training in organization (1) on-the-job-training: training given to employees at their place of work, (2) off-the-job-training: training given to employees away from their place of work (such as at a college, school, resort, etc).

Training and Coaching:
Training is when someone is taught on something, while coaching is a face-to-face instruction where a subordinate is shown how to change their behaviour. So, it can conclude that they are spouse as they do need each other!

Questions:
As an employee, have you been given the right and enough trainings by your employer/organization? You can answer that. I rest my case.

HR: Turnover vs Employee Oriented

Many studies show that companies with low turnover rates are very employee oriented. Employee oriented organizations solicit input and involvement from all employees and maintain a true "open-door" policy. Employees are given opportunities for advancement and are not micro-managed. Employees believe they have a voice and are recognized for their contribution.

Great Bargain?

Earlier post (taken from The STAR online today), has snapped me off about my team project on particular airlines in Malaysia (years back). The mission was: to study, learn and identify the internal problems in the organization with suggestions on each problems identified.

After few months of stress and yell, five major issues have been identified (i.e. top heavy) and should be look into seriously (from our perspectives of course, which based on research. Yes-we are just some students (that time) and all ideas/suggestions will only be on our paperwork.

Today's appointment of the former MAS CEO and managing director as the CEO of Pemandu, the unit monitoring the implementation of the key performance indicator (KPI) initiative-will be something to think about; does he has the capability? *Or some will say, "oh, its nothing to do with me la-well what is KPI anyway..". What do you think?

Guess, we need to give him sometime to prove it.
Hopefully it's a great bargain (or not?).
I rest my case.

HR: Coaching

Why coaches matter?

I took this subject during my bachelor and always thought that coaches only matter when you are in a high raking level. Which is not true, the coach metaphor comes from music, sports, drama, or other endeavors where participants must learn, adapt, and act in an ever-improving way. Coaches help participants see what did and did not work and offer specific counsel and advice on what can be done to improve performance. Coaches focus on behaviors as well as attitudes. Coaches have to understand individual differences and figure out how to motivate desired behavior.

Coaches teach as well as learn. Coaches know when to be critical and demanding and when to be positive and supportive. Coaches know how to stimulate individual behavior and encourage teamwork. Coaches may not be popular, but they deliver results and they are accountable for the results they deliver.

HR coaches read their business leaders and learn how to provide them concrete feedback on their behavior. Like personal trainers, they are able to help executives get organizationally and socially fit. HR players are in the ideal position to do executive coaching because they are outside the career politics (e.g. not after the senior leader’s job), have training in the human side of the business which enables them to observe unintended consequences, and offer insights not often shared with the business leader.

Coaches and teachers, are they similar? Guess, they are cousins.

Nonahanim: now you see why coaching is important in any organization? You can answer. End.
